February Newsletter

HARPFORD VILLAGE HALL NEWS

It’s been a busy few weeks for the Village Hall.  There were two very well-attended First Aid courses on 9th February, organised for us by Ann Woodland and South Devon College. It covered basic first aid, CPR and the use of the defibrillator which is placed on the wall outside the Hall. The feedback was extremely positive – thanks to Ann for organising it.

At last, we now have Internet Access in the Hall so mobile phones will now work. We have been successful in getting a grant of £200 from the Parish Council towards the initial running costs. Hopefully this will not only be a safety asset for people using the Hall but will also make the Hall more appealing for rental.

Outside the Hall, the decking project is continuing and hopefully, with the better weather, we will soon be able to enjoy the additional space this offers us. Thanks to Adrian Pope for his perseverance with this big project. We hope to replace the seating for this area through fundraising efforts.

Dan Hanson has also sorted through our book library, so feel free to bring and buy.

And don’t forget anyone can hire the Hall for private events at just £10 per hour! Ideal for groups of up to 45.    See here for more details: https://harpfordvillagehall.wordpress.com/bookings/

Dates for your diaries in March:

Thursday 9th March at 7pm – Coronation Weekend Planning.

Following on from the successful street party to mark the Platinum Jubilee last year which was organised by a group of volunteers rather than the hall committee, we are holding a meeting at the Hall for anyone interested in volunteering to put together an event over the Coronation Weekend ( 6th and 7th May). Please note the village hall committee will not be coordinating this event, although members may be involved.

We have several fundraising events planned over the next few months. We are relying on our these events to complete projects such as the decking and other improvements to the Hall facilities  – please support us where you can.

Friday 10th March from 7pm – Pop Up Pub

Tuesday 14th March 7pm for 7.30pm – ‘The Ups and Downs of a Mountaineer’

 A Presentation by Dan Hansom.

We have so many interesting and knowledgeable residents in the village! Dan has offered to kick off the first in what we hope will be a series of talks and presentations. Dan will be showcasing his unique experience and personal knowledge of mountains and mountaineering.   The tickets for this Hall fundraiser will be £7.00 to include refreshments. Free for students under 18.  Tickets from Vicky Pope or harpfordvillagehall@gmail.com.  If anyone feels they would like to give a talk or do a presentation on an interesting topic, please contact Liz.

Your support is essential: How can you help?

If anyone is keen to run a Coffee Morning or be involved any other fundraising events, please let us know. We are also keen to hear from people happy to help on a rota basis for Hall cleaning.
